Today is Wednesday, the third day that I am taking care of my kids on my own. My mother in law went back to Virginia last Tuesday, and my mother went back to Ecuador last Friday. I was lucky enough to be able to find people to help out in the afternoons this week, as I've noticed that in the afternoons I have less patience for my 4 year old. I don't like to yell at her, but I find that I'm doing it more often, and I don't have the patience for simple games that she likes to play, and that she should be able to play... and that I should be able to play. However, I was not able to get any help for yesterday (Tuesday). With the weather the way it's been, I was scared, but it turned out to be a beautiful day, so we were able to spend time outside, and S was able to play with her cousin in the afternoon. I didn't cook dinner, but got pizza instead. When my mother was here, there were 2 days when she had to be home alone with my two daughters in the afternoon, during dinner cooking time. My mother used to be strict Macrobiotic, she likes as much organic stuff as possible, and insists on vegetables at every meal. When we got home the first day that she was alone, she had used frozen vegetables, and used left overs to feed S. She said, "I did not realize how difficult the afternoons are for you!" This week, and next week, S is also on vacation from her school. She goes to summer school the Monday after July 4th. So, this was basically me jumping into the deep end as I learn to swim. Oh, yeah, and my 8 month old, O, is having major stomach issues because my wife had walking pneumonia (that she only last week got treated for, even though she's been walking around with it for the past 4 to 5 weeks) and she was taking heavy antibiotics - which destroy the flora in your intestines giving you diarreah. So, O has not been sleeping well at night, which means that she's cranky during the day. My muscles are getting a work out! I pick O up with my left arm, so it's sore, tired and it's going to get quite bulky. I use my right arm to support her, but I'm still working on stretching it little by little, so it doesn't necessarily make it as far as I need it to sometimes. And I have to keep O away from my right side, because when she starts kicking I don't want her feet to kick my scar, which is still quite tender. I don't have anyone lined up for next week yet. Not sure exactly how that's going to work. |
