Everyone's talking about it, and a few people have asked me what my view is.  I never thought about it, but it seems that it should be on my radar considering my situation.

I don't know all the details, or the terms and jargon being thrown around.

What I do know is this - we are a democracy.  In a democracy, everyone counts.  If everyone cannot have health insurance, then we are not care of everyone.  We only need health insurance because of how our health system is set up.  Doctors get paid by the procedure.

As I write that last sentence, I think - isn't that how Wall Street works?  Brokers get paid by each sale that they make?  And we've seen how that ended up, so why should doctors be treated the same?  Shouldn't they be paid an hourly wage, so that they can take care of all patients equally, and so that we don't have to be on guard when they tell us we need surgery?

I don't know what everyone means when they say "Public Option" for health care.  I do know that the only reason my wife works 2 hours away, driving 4 hours a day, is because we need to have health insurance and it needs to be good to take care of my needs.  And even with the health insurance, we've got over $5,000 in bills that way over due, because we'd rather pay for food than for the anesthesiologist that took care of my wife during her last C-Section, or the surgeon that did my last surgery, etc., etc.

The following is a great clip from the Colbert Report, where Stephen Colbert interviewed Michael Moore about the new movie Capitalism: A Love Story.

I know some people who think that the US Govt. is a big conspiracy against the people of the US... but somehow you can always find little facts like the one Michael Moore said- According to the FBI, 80% of all mortgage foreclosures are due to medical bills.

My somewhat uninformed, non-technical view of the whole thing, is that medical bills should in no way we a cause for someone to lose their home. That is absolutely disgusting.
